The World Health Organization recognizes "the traditional use of witch hazel in the treatment of minor skin lesions, bruises, inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes, hemorrhoids, and varicose veins." It also recognizes its hemostatic (anti-bleeding) properties. It has astringent, healing, hemostatic, antibacterial, and vasoconstrictive properties.
